Innovations Roll On
in REHAU-Laminex partnership
REHAU joined The Laminex Group on its stand this August at their GrowExpo 2005 conference in Fiji.
In the kitchen display, you could find the RAUVOLET Metallic Line roll shutters. These stylish shutters in real aluminum are now available in a prefabricated kit covering four standard widths - 600mm, 800mm, 1000mm and 1200mm. Although available in other sizes, these four standard sizes are prefabricated to enhance the supply process.
According to Andrew Whisker, Sales Office Manager for REHAU Auckland, the prefabricated widths make installation much easier saving time in an industry where time is money. “Up until now, the product has been supplied as a door made to your size, which took time to fit, or as a component, which meant an in-depth understanding was needed for how the product was manufactured and installed. Fabricators had to cut metal which we know from experience is not ideal in a predominantly wood environment.”
Says Whisker, “We want to make installation as easy as possible for our customers. So with RAUVOLET roller shutter, it’s simply a matter of screwing it in – which usually takes no longer than 15 minutes”. The product also comes complete with an easy-to-use installation guide.
Also shown prominently on the plasma screen at the Laminex booth were the RAUVOLET FE roll shutters. These appealing shutters are a move into the general furniture market for REHAU. Whisker commented that “cosmetically very different from our other shutters, the FE roll shutter is much more sophisticated-looking and furniture-oriented, which is an approach we haven’t taken before.”
Available in three translucent colours - white, blue and yellow, the FE roller shutter is made with metal joiners that clip together the 80mm-wide polypropylene slats. Research and development on these new shutters took three years, resulting in a stylish and practical product that the designers have always wanted.
“We don’t like to over commit and under perform” says Whisker. “REHAU launches a product only when we’re absolutely sure it performs to customer expectations. RAUVOLET FE has been patented, so don’t expect to see anything like it elsewhere in the market.”
Elsewhere at GrowExpo, a development with Formway Furniture shows off the RAUVOLET SE22 Translucent roller shutter. This eye-catching shutter was designed into a new range of fashionable office furniture called “Traffic”. Incorporated into four mobile office stations completed with computer terminals atop them, these stations were placed around the booth to show not just how the product looks but also how it can be used in an open office environment. As a practical complement, each station also has the REHAU Cable Management System descended from the lighting overhead.
The SE22 Translucent roller shutter is made from PVC in a smooth or textured finish. Depending on the quantity ordered, it can be matched to corporate colours or any interior décor. According to Whisker, working with Formway is a “very significant step” for this product as the SE22 Translucent is being used in high-profile office environments around Australia and New Zealand.
Finally, REHAU has been working closely with The Laminex Group to colour-match RAUKANTEX PVC edgebands with the new Malteca range of colours as well as other colours from Laminex. On display was RAUKANTEX magic edgeband. This specialty edging comes in exclusive colours and designs including metallic, stripes, lines and dots - for use on edgings for carcasses, doors or benchtops.
“Designers love anything different,” says Whisker. “We think that our RAUKANTEX magic edgeband range will really jazz up a kitchen décor, particularly on benchtops. For example, mixing woodgrain tops with metallic edge gives a really sharp and modern impact yet retains the welcoming and warm look.”
