Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions
1. Which applications and which REHAU pipes are suitable for RAUTITAN PX compression sleeves and fittings?
RAUTITAN PX compression sleeves and fittings can be used for water services and heating installations. That means RAUTITAN PX compression sleeves and fittings are fully compatible with all RAUTITAN pipe series: RAUTITAN his 311, RAUTITAN pink, RAUTITAN green, RAUTITAN lilac and RAUTITAN stabil pipes. The guidelines stated in REHAU Technical Information apply.

2. What are the temperature and pressure resistances of RAUTITAN PX fittings?
There are no changes in operating limit parameters of RAUTITAN PX fittings compared to RAUTITAN MX (brass) fittings. The systems can still be operated at operating temperature of 70°C and operating pressure of 10 bars for 50 years continuously.

3. What is the main difference between RAUTITAN PX and RAUTITAN MX compression sleeves and fittings in terms of handling?
RAUTITAN PX compression sleeves can be pushed onto the pipes from both sides, i.e. you don’t need to check the compression sleeve’s orientation anymore.

4. Why can’t I use RAUTITAN brass compression sleeves with RAUTITAN PX polymer fittings?
Brass and polymers expand and contract differently with respect to temperature. The brass compression sleeve would restrict the expansion of the polymer fitting, potentially resulting in a damaged polymer fitting and a compromised joint integrity.

5. Can I reuse RAUTITAN PX compression sleeves and/or fittings?
Like the brass sleeves, the PVDF compression sleeves must not be reused. The same applies to the PPSU fittings. RAUTITAN PX compression sleeves and fittings may not be reused.

6. Can I install RAUTITAN PX compression sleeves and fittings within a slab or wall chase?
Yes, you can. Please follow the installation guidelines in the latest applicable Technical Information.

7. Can RAUTITAN PX compression sleeves and fittings be used for gas installations inside buildings?
No. The current gas installation standard does not allow the use of polymer fittings. Only pipes and fittings from the RAUTITAN gas range are to be used for gas installations.

8. What do I have to consider regarding chemical resistance when installing RAUTITAN PX components?
Similar to all RAUTITAN pipes, some chemicals (especially solvents in adhesives, oils and lacquers) may damage plastic materials.

Only allow contacts with other construction materials which have been confirmed by the respective manufacturers as suitable for PEX, PVDF or PPSU. Please also refer to the latest REHAU Technical Information.

9. Can I use my existing REHAU RAUTOOLs for RAUTITAN PX compression sleeves and fittings?
Yes. Existing RAUTOOL components are suitable for use with RAUTITAN PX components, with the following exceptions:
- RAUTOOL L1
- 40mm compression jaws
- 16/20 dual expander heads with silver colour

The entry level RAUTOOL L1 is not compatible with RAUTITAN PX components and a free upgrade to RAUTOOL M1 is available.

To compress a 40 mm RAUTITAN PX joint, a new and improved pair of compression jaws is required. The improved jaws are easily identified by their black colour (existing 40mm jaws are in gold colour). A free upgrade from existing 40mm compression jaws is available.

The same applies to your old 16/20 dual expander head. A free exchange of old dual expander head to the Mark II version is available; the new 16/20 dual expander is in black colour for easy identification.

Please contact your merchant or nearest REHAU sales office for details.

10. Do I have to carry out a different pressure test procedure when using RAUTITAN PX compression sleeves and fittings?
No – the pressure test is to be carried out in the same way as for brass compression sleeves and fittings.

If leak detection sprays are used, ensure the respective manufacturers have confirmed the products’ suitability for PVDF and PPSU materials.
